Damage to the Papyrus

The following digital and microscopic images demonstrate particular areas of damage in the GJW fragment (read the HTR article for more information). The digital images are courtesy of B. D. Colen. The microscopic images were taken by Dr. Douglas Fishkind at the Harvard Center for Biological Imaging using a Zeiss Discovery V8 stereo microscope.

The following images illustrate especially a strip of papyrus lifting up from the verso of the deglassed GJW fragment (see the discussion in the King article, note 10).

The following two images illustrate a brown-orange material on top of the ink (the letter epsilon) at GJW line 7 (see the discussion in King's "Jesus said to them," note 13). The images were taken by Dr. Douglas Fishkind at the Harvard Center for Biological Imaging using a Zeiss Discovery V8 stereo-microscope.
